July 2017 saw the colourful splatfest Splatoon 2 land on Switch and it would soon be joined in October 2017 by the amazing Super Mario Odyssey. Quite a year! Of course, there were many more great games released in 2017 on the Switch, and we've taken the liberty of rounding them up for you below.
The five games below were created as a result of a deal with WMS Industries and Nintendo. It allowed Midway Games, which was owned by WMS, to develop and market games using the early arcade-based version of the Ultra 64 platform.[51]
Sam Loveridge is the Global Editor-in-Chief of GamesRadar, and joined the team in August 2017. In her time, she's also had appearances on The Guardian, BBC, and more. Her gaming passions lie with weird simulation games, big open-world RPGs, and beautifully crafted indies. Basically, she loves all games that aren't sports or fighting titles!
This is the ultimate family game. Mario Party Superstars brings back the classic Mario Party games with more than 100 games that up to four people can enjoy. Choose from 1 vs. 3, 2 vs. 2, or have a full-on four-player battle royale in a collection that never seems to get old.
The Nintendo Switch is a mash-up between the iconic DS console and the Wii U, when you think about it. While those predecessors all but demanded that games be redesigned to make the most of their strange features, the Switch manages to make old ideas new again simply by allowing you to take them out into the wild. Dark Souls on the tube! Mario at the beach! Tetris everywhere!
Enjoy 164 courses for up to four players anytime, anywhere in New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe on Nintendo Switch!
Play three classic 16-bit era games on your Switch with Disney Classic Games Collection: The Jungle Book, Aladdin, & The Lion King. These are three classic 2D platforming games from the days of the Super Nintendo and Mega Drive. What could be a more cozy Switch game than a trip down memory lane?
It finally happened. The Nintendo Switch surpassed the Super Nintendo in lifetime sales, with over 50 million units moved since the console launched in 2017. This puts the handheld/non-handled device above the bulk of Nintendo’s console library, including the N64, Wii U, and GameCube. All that’s left for the Switch to beat is the NES and the Wii. The Switch could very well become the best-selling Nintendo console of all time. Damn. What a time to be a Nintendo fan.

This is a game many players — regardless of whether they owned a Genesis — may not have heard of. But it highlights one of the best parts about the Expansion Pack and Nintendo Switch Online. Through curation, Nintendo is able to bring a wide variety of old games to a completely new audience, and Gunstar Heroes is a great Genesis grab for anyone, regardless of whether they’re new to the platform.

I'm surprised to see The Messenger so high, but it deserves it!
Enjoy the Wii U title on Switch! Super Mario 3D World is a great game for the whole family, and Bowser's Fury offers new content for those that played the original.
There are few more hallowed gaming traditions than curling up in front of a TV in a cool, dark room illuminated only by the pixels scampering their way across the screen. Nintendo's 8-bit classics are practically the support beam of the gaming industry as fans know it today, and having them all together in a player's back pocket is something the gamers of yesteryear could only dream about.
Wow this list is a joke where is Dragon Quest XI??

Nintendo Switch, a hybrid home console and handheld device, launched worldwide on March 3, 2017. By the end of 2017, it had outsold the lifetime sales of Wii U, its home console predecessor.[1] In September 2019, Nintendo launched the Nintendo Switch Lite, a handheld-only version of the system. By the end of 2020, total Nintendo Switch family units had outsold the lifetime sales of the Nintendo 3DS, its handheld console predecessor, by selling nearly 80 million units.[2] As of December 31, 2021, the Nintendo Switch has sold nearly 104 million consoles.[3]
Whether it’s due to irony or a bizarrely dedicated speed-run community, this PS2-era SpongeBob SquarePants game has been lavishly remade in 2020 as SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated. There are times when it's tough to ignore the clunky, old-school control scheme. Still, this is the best a SpongeBob game has ever looked, and switching between different characters makes for moments of surprisingly varied platforming. Plus, kids care more about hanging out with SpongeBob than experiencing cutting-edge gameplay.
The Switch’s relatively inferior performance won’t be as big a deal if you typically play lightweight games like Minecraft and Stardew Valley, and again, Nintendo titles look and run especially great on the system. But if you’re looking for the best way to play the likes of The Witcher, Apex Legends or Doom on the go, you’re better off with the Steam Deck.

A cheaper Mario Kart, or perhaps WipEout for the Switch, this futuristic hover-racing game was an early Switch launch title, and it's really underrated. It does multiplayer wonderfully.

A couple of warnings: Gorogoa is pretty short and I think it might play better on an iPad, but it's such a unique, compelling and seamless experience on any platform.

Assuming you only have one Switch, here are the best multiplayer games that are worth playing with your family, which we keep updated as new titles appear. One of my favorites is still Nintendo's Clubhouse Games -- a collection of classic board games from around the world that's playable locally or online. But there are plenty of other options, too. If you want some games to play without adding a second player (we love Zelda and Hyrule as much as the next person), check out our list of the best Nintendo Switch games.

@SetupDisk true! How could they forget;) one of my faves
Not nearly as iconic as the NES original, this boxing game is still an addictive rush of pattern recognition and colorful racial stereotypes. It’s a simple formula, one that’s hard to mess up, but also one done so perfectly on the NES that every subsequent version was bound to feel a touch unnecessary. That’s the rub with Super Punch-Out!!: it’s well-designed and exactly as good today as it was when it came out, but it’s still hopelessly stuck in the shadow of its forebear.

Why should you buy it? If you love Tetris and think you're better at playing it than anyone else, then you need to try Tetris 99. It's an insane take on battle royale where you play Tetris simultaneously along with 98 other people, but every two or more lines you clear you send as junk to other players, either at random, to the people closest to a KO, to your attackers or to those doing the best so far. It's mad, fast paced and turns the zen Tetris stacking into a frenzy that will have you screaming at your Switch. It might be the best thing ever.
Arvi Teikari’s ingenious puzzler churns spatial awareness and the building blocks of communication together to form one of the most difficult yet enriching games of the year. It might have Sokoban at its core—yes, you push and slide objects across the screen—but instead of moving boxes around to find an exit, you’re moving words and symbols that can redefine the nature and behavior of everything else on the screen. The title might make no sense before you play it, but it’s actually the equation that drives the heart of the game: Baba is you, as long as the words “Baba,” “is” and “you” are arranged in the right order. From that basic premise it explodes out into a series of widely varied, almost never simple brainteasers that will keep you engrossed for days, if not weeks.
Go back to the classics with Nintendo Entertainment System - Nintendo Switch Online. Those who have an online membership can access many beloved NES games from their Switch. You can even play with friends online who also have a membership. Get into the classics like The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros 3, and Donkey Kong.
